You cannot miss that! Polish Community invited to the nature reserve in Kaipara for the Great After Easter Picnic.

The event under the patronage of the Polish Honorary Consul in Auckland, POLANZ, the PL-NZ Business Association, and Auckland Polish Association is scheduled for Saturday 17 of April from 10.00 am. The address is as follows: 2704 Kaipara Coast Road, Araparera.

The reserve is located quite a short drive from North Shore. Polish the red-white flag will be displayed on the entry to the reserve.

Please, bring with you food/snacks, etc. Coffee and tea will be provided by our hosts. If necessary there is an opportunity to heat up the meal. All members of the Polish Community and their friends are welcome. Kids and Children are welcome. Pets are not permitted due to the big number of birds in the reserve.

Thomas and Mahrukh Stazyk bought a 24-hectare farm in Kaipara (North West of Auckland) and instead of farming it, they transformed the grassy slopes into a nature reserve. Since 2008 with the help of many volunteers, local iwi, and private companies they planted 170,000 NZ native trees! To be precise: they gave back to nature, what was taken from it by European settlers. Thomas was born in the USA, but he is of Polish descend (grandparents were Polish immigrants). Thomas worked for big international corporations but at some stage in his life. He decided to change his life focus, he moved to quiet New Zealand, where he met and married Mahrukh. They shared a passion for nature which lead them to create CUE Haven (www.cuehaven.com). Thomas and Mahrukh’s professionalism and organizational talents and hard work plus Thomas’ Polish stubbornness ended up with a project which is a fine example that destruction which we, humans did to nature can also be fixed by us.

During the picnic in CUE Haven, we will have an opportunity to make an easy walk guided by Thomas with his commentary. The walking track leads to the recently build platform with a stunning view toward Kaipara Harbour and the surrounding area. Thomas, who is proud of his Polish ancestry, engraved on one of the wooden columns supporting the platform, the White Eagle, the Polish national emblem. We also will plant some native trees and thas we will leave for posterity our mark in the reserve.

We are sure that a couple of hours at CUE Haven will be a fantastic experience for everybody.

So please, indicate your willingness to take part in the picnic to the event coordinator, Maria Nowak, email: maria@greenlitetravel.co.nz
